Right before I moved here to Seattle, I spent a couple of weeks in Boise to say goodbye to my favourite people in the world. We were mellowed out one morning, laying on Jenise’s floor and probably watching silly youtube videos, when I decided to introduce her to Mystery Google. For those of you that don’t know, Mystery Google gives you the search results of the person who searched before you. It perpetuated something called “missions”, where strangers post a mission as their search so that another stranger can get that mission. Anything from “call your mom and tell her you love her” to “hug the next stranger you meet”. It’s a personal obligation to carry out these missions, but once I get one I feel that I must fulfill it.
(It’s a big thing on MLIA)
But lately the missions have been bogged down by requests to AIM people or use formsprings, so I posted my super secret special Mystery Google email and told people to send us missions. So we got one, and it was this:
Dress up as Pirates and Ninjas and stage an epic battle.
Well, never ones to disappoint, we sent text messages to all of our delightfully bizarre friends, made a facebook event, and posted on craigslist. Within six hours we had a flash mob of people to dress up as pirates and ninjas and go to downtown Boise, Idaho to have a battle.
All together, I believe 23 people participated. It was great fun. We ran amuck for ten minutes hitting each other with lightsabers. In the end, the pirates won. (Naturally, since I was a pirate)
The video is from that night; excuse me screaming random Japanese in a high pitched squeal at the beginning.
